Questions about Can I Dine?™
Answers to the questions restaurants and guests ask most often.
Frequently asked questions
What is Can I Dine?™?
Can I Dine?™ is restaurant allergen menu software. A restaurant uploads its current menu, reviews the dishes, ingredients, cooking oils, and shared equipment, and publishes a QR code menu. Guests scan it, choose their allergies and dietary needs, and see the menu sorted into suggested dishes, dishes that may need a modification, and dishes to avoid.
Which allergies and diets can guests filter by?
Guests can filter by the nine major U.S. food allergens plus gluten, mustard, celery, lupin, sulfites, corn, mushroom, citrus, alliums, and nightshades. They can combine those with vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, keto, and celiac needs, kosher or halal where the restaurant declares it serves them, and custom ingredients they type in themselves.
Does Can I Dine?™ handle cross-contact and shared fryers?
Yes. Restaurants declare which dishes share a fryer, grill, or prep station and which cooking oils they use. Guests see cross-contact warnings on affected dishes, and a Severe allergy setting removes dishes with relevant shared-equipment or cooking-oil exposure.
What languages does the guest menu support?
English, Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Amharic.
Does Can I Dine?™ guarantee a dish is safe?
No. Can I Dine?™ organizes the information the restaurant provides so guests and staff can have a clearer conversation. It does not inspect kitchens or certify allergen-free preparation. Guests should always tell staff about their restrictions before ordering.
