This Privacy Policy explains what information Can I Dine?™ ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and — just as importantly — what we do not do with it. It applies to the Can I Dine?™ website, web app, and related services (the "Platform").
- We do not sell your data. We have never sold, rented, or traded personal information, and we will not.
- We do not run advertising. There are no ad networks, ad trackers, ad pixels, or third-party advertising cookies on the Platform, and we do not share information with advertisers.
- We do not build advertising or marketing profiles about you, and we do not use your allergy information for any purpose other than showing you menu results.
- We collect only what is needed to run the service, and we keep it to a minimum.
Browsing a restaurant menu and using the allergen checker does not require an account or login. When you use the allergen checker we process:
- The allergies, dietary restrictions, or free-text queries you enter, together with the restaurant and menu you are viewing. This is sent to our service to compute which dishes match, and the *result* (not you) is cached so the same query is instant and free for the next person.
- Basic technical data such as your IP address and request metadata. We use this transiently for security and rate-limiting (to stop automated abuse of the service) — not to identify you, advertise to you, or build a profile.
We do not ask guests for their name, email, or contact details, and we do not require you to create an account to check a menu.
Restaurants that create an account provide information such as a business name, contact email, menu and ingredient content, and — if they subscribe — billing details. Payment card details are handled directly by our payment processor (Stripe) and are not stored on our servers. This information is used only to operate the restaurant's account and menu.
We use the information above solely to:
- Provide the allergen analysis and menu features you request;
- Cache and translate menu results so the Platform is fast and low-cost;
- Keep the Platform secure and prevent abuse;
- Operate restaurant accounts and, where applicable, billing;
- Comply with law.
That's it. We do not use it for advertising, data sales, or third-party marketing.
To run the Platform we use a small number of infrastructure providers strictly as data processors acting on our behalf — for example, cloud hosting, a database and cache, an AI model provider that performs the allergen analysis, and a payment processor for restaurant billing. They may process data only to provide their service to us and are not permitted to sell it or use it for their own advertising. We do not share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or marketers.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
- We do not serve ads or embed advertising trackers.
- We do not share data with advertising networks or data brokers.
- We do not use your allergy queries to profile you or market to you.
We use only the cookies and local storage necessary for the Platform to function (for example, remembering your language choice). We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Cached menu-analysis results expire automatically (typically within 24 hours) and are tied to a menu and query, not to you. Security and rate-limiting data is short-lived. Saved menus and recipes are retained while the subscription is active. After it ends, the QR menu remains accessible for 7 days and saved menu data is retained for 30 days total, then automatically deleted from the live service by the scheduled cleanup, normally within one hour, unless the subscription is reactivated before the deadline. Deletion is deferred when current billing status cannot be verified. Account login remains available for billing and account management. Billing records may be retained for legal and accounting obligations; backup copies follow the hosting providers' backup lifecycle.
Because guests use the Platform without an account, we hold little to no information that identifies an individual diner. Restaurant owners can cancel renewal using Cancel subscription in the dashboard, or request immediate deletion using Settings → Delete account. For other access, correction, or deletion requests, contact us using the details below.
The Platform is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date above.
